Spruce up your cooking area with this easy under-sink tidy and handmade sink base liner.
Keeping a kitchen tidy can be a real puzzle.
Aside from working out how to arrange small kitchen cabinets, I’ve also dealt with the challenge of organizing the space beneath the sink.
Is it awful to confess that I dislike housework and tend to sidestep the mess under there?
However, I took it on recently.
And, I’m delighted to say – the task wasn’t nearly as daunting as I feared!

Handy Under Sink Organizing Tips plus a Homemade Base Liner

1. Kick off your under-sink reorganization by clearing out the entire area.

It almost goes without mentioning that to refresh the space, you must first remove everything!
2. Arrange all the bins to soak in warm, soapy liquid

While I attacked scrubbing the cabinet interior, I submerged the smaller containers in the sink filled with sudsy water, and filled the trash and recycling receptacles with hot, soapy solution.
3. Scrub the cabinet interior thoroughly

I no longer rely on harsh chemical cleaners within my abode. Instead, I opted for a spray bottle filled with dish soap and water this time around.

Although the hygiene aspect saw significant improvement, I observed that blemishes tend to appear easily on the cabinet base, and the surface coating is beginning to deteriorate in certain spots.
I had spotted attractive under-sink base mats at a nearby retailer for precisely this reason, yet I chose to craft one swiftly using items I already possessed.
4. Create a straightforward DIY under-sink base floor liner
Essential items required:
- A substantial cardboard container (Amazon came to the rescue!;))
- Tape measure
- X-acto knife
- Scissors
- Extended straight implement (such as a square or level)
- Marble appearance contact paper

- Flatten the cardboard box by unfolding it.
- Trim the cardboard to match the dimensions of your under sink cabinet floor.
- Cut two sections of marble look contact paper that are slightly longer than the cardboard's width.
- Remove the backing from the contact paper and apply it to the cardboard, overlapping it beneath the edges.

This new under sink mat gives the area a notably fresher and cleaner feel!
Benefits of an under sink mat
I recall trying this method several years ago and enjoyed it; the contact paper cleans up easily. Moreover, it shielded our cabinet from a mishap! I hadn't noticed a minor leak underneath until the cardboard became saturated.
Although it ruined my small diy, it certainly safeguarded the cabinet! I'm pleased I finally replaced it.
5. Discard all unused belongings
Most items beneath the sink were for daily use, yet I chuckled at my neatly folded knitted dishcloths inside a plastic bin.
I hadn't touched one of those in over a year! (I now use a different type. Continue reading…)
6. Arrange items logically based on usage, employing containers for under kitchen sink tidiness

Since our cabinet is quite deep, I tucked the garbage bags behind the garbage cans, allowing easy access to a new bag when emptying.

The dishcloth container now holds the actual dishcloths we utilize, freeing up my crowded towel drawer!
The other plastic container stores dishsoap and pot scrubbers.
