The heat in our region over the last week has been intense.
This heat surpasses any recorded temperature on Vancouver Island; we experienced consecutive days above 100 degrees, which is unusual given our typically cool ocean breezes.
This extreme weather prompted me to share some favorite items, specifically the finest swimsuits for women over 40.
Top Summer Picks: Swimwear for Women Over 40
Miracle Suit Swimsuit
During my childhood, I spent many hot summer days at our town pool, even though I am not particularly athletic, I truly enjoy swimming.
As I've aged, feeling self-conscious in swimwear diminished my enjoyment of swimming.
This week changed that; I have worn my new Miracle Suit swimsuit daily, swimming in the lake with my husband in the evenings.
I absolutely adore my new suit! I always believe that finding swimwear that fits and feels comfortable is a blessing, and this suit proves it.
Here are the key features I prioritize:
- a tankini style (which simplifies restroom breaks;)),
- ample bust support and coverage
- bottoms with full coverage, and
- something that boosts my feeling of charm and self-assurance

This is the tankini top I purchased (the exact pattern is elusive, but many styles exist; mine is black and white floral). The bottoms resemble those included. I also enjoy wearing swim shorts over my Miraclesuit bottoms, though they can be worn independently for extra coverage.
I appreciate the top's flowing 'overtop' design with a central slit, layered over substantial full coverage.
It fits perfectly and supports everything without impeding circulation!

I sourced mine at Winners in Canada, a retailer similar to TJMaxx in the US; the tankini top and bottoms were a set. I currently cannot locate the set online, but it might be available elsewhere!
Swimsuit Coverup
Alongside a great swimsuit, I prefer an easy-to-don coverup for trips to and from the lake or pool.
I found a lovely one locally, but I also searched online for similar styles; see the images below for suggestions.
Top Sunscreen for Sensitive Skin
As previously noted, I have skin that is exceptionally delicate and prone to allergic reactions. Locating a sun protection product that suited me and avoided a greasy texture proved challenging! However, I discovered a preferred option. It is La Roche-Posay with 60 SPF, and it works wonderfully. While it sits at a higher price point, managing sunburn is something I can influence if I simply apply it…so I make sure to do so! I exhaust every possible measure to prevent sunburn.
Mobile Cooling Device
Up until this point, we had never contemplated acquiring an air conditioning unit. The necessity simply wasn't there. Nevertheless, this week it proved to be an absolute lifesaver that we managed to borrow a portable window-style cooler like this one.
I genuinely have no idea how we would have gotten by without it. (Perhaps spending the entire day by the lake??)
Its capacity is insufficient to lower the temperature of the entire residence, but it performed exceptionally well at cooling our sleeping quarters. Thus, at minimum, we were able to rest!
Every cooling unit available in every store across Vancouver Island was depleted this week, making us extremely appreciative of this loan…and we urgently need to acquire one for our own use!
