I have frequently discussed wood painting over the years, often starting conversations like this:
“Are you truly planning to cover that lovely wood???” {Surprise. Surprise.}
Maybe you have encountered this discussion with someone you know.
After much consideration of this topic, I have reached several conclusions.
To begin with, there are certain items I own that I simply cannot imagine painting.
Our Dining Room buffet is one such piece; it came from my childhood home in Montana when I resided there, holding many cherished memories and being perfect as it is.

The other item is the small dresser in our bedroom, which was my initial (and likely final) furniture refinishing endeavor, taking 3 years to finish after applying 7 coats of paint, sanding repeatedly; I cannot bring myself to paint it now, though I would enjoy it if I did!

Aside from those two items, I would likely paint nearly everything in the house; for instance, if I entered a home with solid oak kitchen cupboards, I would choose to paint them white, because I prefer white cupboards the most.
Ultimately, it comes down to personal taste, as the feeling of a space is vital to me; I prefer environments that are both relaxing and cheerful, unlike our initial upstairs space which lacked both due to its small size and minimal natural light. {Space size and natural light greatly influence the dark wood versus painted dilemma!}

Some walls featured 70s panelling while others displayed authentic fir boards.

This combination resulted in an overall gloomy ambiance; I confess I felt apprehension when first using my foam roller with primer on a real fir board...

However, witnessing the bright and joyful outcome has made me completely confident ever since.

{The upstairs landing was my first brave painting project; this was before my Bildirimlerim blogging, but you can view the office makeover here, here, and here, and the beach bedroom makeover is here.}
