These charming heart-shaped Valentine hot chocolate bombs make wonderful sweet gifts for the holiday season!

A few months ago, I began exploring the world of hot chocolate bombs, and they have become very popular lately!

My initial attempts involved Mocha Hot Chocolate Bombs paired with a homemade fireside coffee blend.

Finding heart-shaped silicone molds at a nearby shop sparked the idea to create a Valentine’s Day hot chocolate bomb version.

Here is what you will require for ingredients and supplies:

ingredients for valentines hot cocoa bombs
  • silicone mold – *I could not locate the precise mold I used, but this similar heart shaped mold is available. My mold's cavity depth was 1.2 inches. Walmart offers another choice here.
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 2 tsp. butter, divided
  • hot chocolate mix
  • mini marshmallows
  • 2 squares baker’s white chocolate
  • sprinkles

1. Gently melt 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 teaspoon butter in the microwave, using 25 second intervals and stirring thoroughly between each interval, until the chocolate is completely smooth and melted.

2. Using a spoon, thoroughly coat the interiors and exterior sides of the silicone molds. (This recipe yields 4 heart shaped hot chocolate bombs.)

Ensure the sides are fully covered without any gaps showing; you should have an even chocolate layer covering both the bottoms and sides of the heart-shaped molds.

3. Place the chocolate in the freezer for a minimum of 15 minutes until it has hardened.

4. Carefully fill the set chocolate molds with hot chocolate mix (approximately 3 Tablespoons per heart shaped mold), mini marshmallows, and smarties.

The 'filling' should reach nearly to the top edge of each mold cup.

5. Melt the remaining 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate and butter following the initial heating instructions.

Once fully melted and smooth, pour chocolate over each heart shaped mold to create a chocolate 'base'.

6. Chill in the freezer until firm—around 15 minutes.

7. Gently remove the hardened hot chocolate bombs from the molds and decorate them using melted white chocolate and sprinkles.

After melting the white chocolate squares within a small zip-loc bag, a small opening was made and the melted chocolate was piped directly onto the hot chocolate bombs.

If you wish to incorporate sprinkles, apply them swiftly after piping because the white chocolate solidifies rapidly.

Notes

Melting the white chocolate squares within a small zip-loc bag proved effective; after it liquefied, a small opening was made in the bag to pipe directly onto the hot chocolate bombs.

The white chocolate squares were melted inside a small zip-loc bag, and once smooth, a small corner was snipped to pipe it directly onto the hot chocolate bombs.

For adding sprinkles, apply them swiftly after piping the white chocolate because the chocolate sets very rapidly.
