- Patterned Paper featuring complementary designs and hues (A charming Spring collection is suggested.)
- String or jute (I find colored baker’s twine particularly appealing for this craft.)

- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Paper Cutter (This is my PREFERRED type of paper cutter. I have relied on it for many years; simply swap the blade when it dulls.)
How to Construct a Paper Bunting Step by Step
A printable card detailing the steps is available below this article for your convenience.

Step 1: Section the Paper into Strips
Begin with 12” x 12” scrapbook paper.
Divide each sheet into 3 strips that measure 4 inches wide.
Guidance: For a 6-foot banner, you will require roughly 12–15 triangles, so budget for 4–5 sheets of paper based on your chosen color and pattern variety.

Step 2: Fold and Mark the Triangles
Fold every strip in half, ensuring the right sides meet, keeping the pattern on the interior.
To establish the triangle markings:
- Indicate every 2 inches along the top edge, beginning at 0
- Indicate every 2 inches along the bottom edge, starting at 1
This slight shift generates the triangle apexes.
You can accelerate this process by folding three strips together and marking them simultaneously.

Optional: If you are creating multiple banners, fashion a cardstock template of the markings for rapid tracing on subsequent strips.

Step 3: Cutting the Triangles
Refer to your pencil markings while cutting the triangles.
Should you utilize a template, ensure you do not cut completely through the top of the template, lest you damage it.
Step 4: Attaching the String
Measure your string to the required length and place it flat.
Fold every triangle over the string, positioning the fold at the apex; apply glue stick to one side and press it firmly.
Position the triangles in your desired sequence, maintaining consistent spacing between each.

Step 5: Displaying Your Bunting!
Secure small loops at both ends of the string for hanging.
For my setup, I hung it over shelf brackets, and a small piece of scotch tape in the center created a gentle swag.

Create a festive paper bunting banner for celebrations!
I find bunting banners to be exceptionally joyful and celebratory decor; you can easily assemble one for various events or moments:
- Adorn the front of the gift table for a bridal shower.
- Let one drape across the handles of a vintage drink cart during an outdoor party.
- Suspend a vibrantly hued banner from an aged window for a Spring vignette above a dresser.
- Utilize old book pages to achieve a farmhouse aesthetic, hanging it in your office window, on the Christmas tree, or above the fireplace mantel.
- Incorporate letters at the beginning of each piece for a warm greeting in your entryway.
Alternative Uses for Paper Decor
Paper is one of my preferred seasonal decorating materials because it is budget-friendly, simple to change, and instantly injects color and character into any area. If you possess a collection of lovely scrapbook paper or digital printables, here are some creative uses beyond just garlands:
- Transform printables into iron-on transfers for throw pillows

- Quickly enhance your space by crafting simple paper flowers or paper rosettes.
- For an attractive touch, utilize paper to line either shelves or drawer interiors.
