Freshen up your style for sunny days with these affordable ideas for fashion for women over 50.
The sun is just starting to show its cheerful face where we live, and I couldn’t be happier.
As the weather warms and flowers start to bloom, it’s the perfect time for a fresh start with our style, too!
Sometimes our personal style can seem dull and uninteresting, but it doesn’t have to be.
Today I want to share simple ways to freshen up your wardrobe and style without breaking the bank.
Fun, Fresh Style Ideas Perfect for Spring! – Fashion for Women over 50

1. Get your closet ready for a new season

I know that doesn’t sound very fresh and fun, but trust me, it is! Clearing out the items you no longer wear or want, and bringing clothes for warmer weather to the front, can make your wardrobe feel exciting again.
It will also remind you of the whole collection of clothes you already have and love, and you can build on that.
If you feel overwhelmed about where to start organizing your closet, here’s an easy step-by-step approach to closet organization.
2. Replace wardrobe staples that have worn out.
Cleaning out your closet may remind you that some timeless staples need replacing. For instance, I have one pair of favorite jeans I wear on a regular basis, year after year. But clothing just doesn’t last forever! Make a note of the things you love wearing that need replacing.
For spring, you may notice some of your favorite t-shirts look a bit dingy. Make a note and shop for pretty new ones. I found a perfect t-shirt while shopping recently. It has a pretty puffy sleeve in just the right length, comes in lots of colors, and is very reasonably priced!! I also love the versatility of a nice striped shirt. It goes with so many things!

3. Try something trendy!

I’m not really concerned with keeping up with “trends,” but I do like to take note of them. I’ve noticed high-rise wide-leg pants are in style again, but after trying on many pairs, I haven’t found the right ones for me.
Another trend I’ve noticed is comfy loungewear dressed up as town wear. I don’t want to see that get out of hand, and I am not going to start shopping in my pajamas! However, I do love the bamboo shorts and t-shirt I recently got from Cozy Earth. Here’s how I styled those pieces into all kinds of outfits!

4. Paint your nails a pretty new color

Changing up your nail color is a fun, inexpensive way to perk up your look.
After trying various brands, I’ve settled on the Essie gel line, which I prefer above all the others. It’s easy to apply, lasts all week, and comes off easily with simple nail polish remover. I use a base coat and a top coat along with the polish color of choice. I’ve noticed neutral nails are popular, so I’ve enjoyed trying out some new colors.

6. Pick up a fun new lip color

Lipstick or lip gloss isn’t that expensive, and it’s a great way to add a fresh new color to your spring style. I absolutely love trying new colors, but there’s one color and brand I keep going back to. Pure Anada Ruby lipstick is my all-time favorite! In fact, it’s the only lipstick I’ve ever completely used up and replaced!
You can see a whole range of lip colors I tried on here.
7. Add a kimono for pattern and interest
I love adding a colorful kimono to simple outfits to dress them up a bit. A bonus is that kimonos don’t add much heat to an outfit.
Here are some kimono options similar to some of my favorites on Amazon.
7. Finish off an outfit with fun accessories.
A fun new pair of earrings, a bracelet, or a necklace can make an outfit come to life.
I reach for my classic silver hoop earrings most of all, but here are some other versatile options:
- pearl drop earrings
- gold hoop earrings
- rattan earrings look so great with casual outfits
