Our Dining Room converted into an Office presented an initial challenge as we started the project
The arrival of Fall followed by Winter was inevitable
When those West Coast winds begin to blow strongly, that room becomes quite chilly; the poor insulation, lack of heat, and drafty single pane windows create a triple problem for warmth. I suggested an electric fireplace might be a helpful addition.
We initially chuckled when that idea was mentioned
It simply wasn't within our financial plan
Therefore, we opted to move the electric heater from our bedroom after I started feeling cold
Then something unexpected happened
During our September holiday walk to the coffee shop, we noticed it was garbage day in the neighborhood, evidenced by the neatly placed garbage cans at each driveway's end.
As we kept walking, we spotted more: next to some garbage bins were pieces of furniture! I was thrilled to see the initial pair of easy chairs.
I finally understood what 'curb side finds' meant!
I have never seen street corner furniture available for free before; we discussed hearing about this in places like New York and shows about renovating such items.
Rounding another corner, we were astonished by what we saw
Directly behind a stop sign, seemingly a gift from above, was this:
an electric fireplace.
We regret not capturing a photograph that day; we felt a bit foolish (and perhaps sneaky!) loading it into our van, unsure if it would operate. But it works!
It provides warmth, glows, lights up, and keeps my toes warm while I work.
It's now time for a refresh for this piece too!
{I am currently removing the paint. Keep watching for project #2 in this 31 Days series from Bildirimlerim!!}
