Bildirimlerim shares a look back at our attempt at a minor bathroom refurbishment, illustrating that renovations seldom follow the initial blueprint.
As my mother wisely noted, things typically worsen before improving, and this project certainly confirmed that! Follow along for amusing setbacks; a link to the completed bathroom renovation is provided below, proving the effort was worthwhile.
Occasionally, a renovation flows smoothly, resulting in a straightforward before and after transformation, similar to the painted barker board project previously shared.

On other occasions, achieving 'progress' involves an unexpectedly circuitous and lengthy journey, where small tasks lead to bigger ones, perhaps leaving you with a bandaged thumb questioning if any actual advancement is occurring.
I've come to believe that renovation 'progress' is largely about perspective; since some elements of my home might look unrecognizable now, consider the current state as an example.
If you visited my home this afternoon for a coffee chat, you would encounter this at the front entrance:

This doesn't reflect the Spring curb appeal I envisioned; while slightly awkward for welcoming guests, it proudly signifies the 'progress' in our bathroom renovation.

Its placement outside stems from the step-by-step nature of the work, beginning when water pipes needed a mere 3 inches of adjustment for our new vanity (more details later). That minor pipe shift necessitated cutting a small section of drywall…

…followed by cutting a tiny bit more drywall to allow for just a 1 1/2 inch pipe height increase.
My husband observed from inside the wall, using a flashlight, thinking…
“What are all these electrical wires for?”
Oh. Goodness.

Sometimes advancement is marked by the precise cuts of an exacto knife; inch by inch, it unveils surprising historical details about the building's original construction.
The drywall removal phase concludes only when most of the wall has become a mound of debris in black garbage bags.

Even if its appearance is unfamiliar, the picture above represents significant progress, taken after the electrician replaced all the {ahem} “problematic” wiring.

A testament to 'progress' is this new, secure plug installed on the appropriate wall.

And perhaps the most wonderful 'progress' feature?
This newly created wall. Despite causing my thumb to lose half its nail, every difficult moment was justified…
Over the next few days, we will gauge progress by the volume of drywall dust collected in dustpans…
I am so enthusiastic I can barely contain myself! :)
