How to Decorate with Vintage Wall Art Prints for a Festive Winter Home
A few years ago I discovered the magic of printing large-scale copyright-free vintage art. (Copyright laws are complicated, but in a nutshell, art that is 100+ years old is in the public domain and free of copyright.) Thanks to that delightful discovery, I get to enjoy art by artists like Monet and Van Gogh all year long! ;)
Above my couch I’ve hung a frame, and each new season I swap out the artwork to match the season and the feel of the room. Last year’s new print was Christmas Morn by W. C. Bauer, and we just LOVE it! The nice thing about this approach is that I can store all the other seasons’ art in the back of the frame!
Here are a few reasons I think you’ll like this wall art idea, too:
- Budget-Friendly Seasonal Updates: Swap prints by season to keep your decor fresh without spending a fortune.
- Space-Saving Storage: All the prints can be stored neatly inside the frame when they’re not in use, so no extra storage is needed!
- Customizable Sizing: Downloadable vintage art prints can be printed in a range of sizes to fit your frame or wall space.
- Easy to Change: Switching out prints takes just a few minutes, so it’s simple to match your decor to any season or holiday.
- Timeless Charm: Vintage art prints add a classic, cozy feel that complements both modern and traditional homes.
- Personalized Style: Choose prints that reflect your taste, from winter landscapes to nostalgic Christmas scenes. There are thousands to pick from!
- Flexible Placement: Use these prints in any room, not just the living room. They’re perfect for bedrooms, dining areas, entryways, bathrooms, and bookcases.
- Eco-Friendly Option: Reusing the same frame and rotating prints cuts down on waste and supports sustainable decorating.

Christmas Morn by W.C. Bauer

This is the print we have hanging above our couch. Although it’s titled “Christmas Morn,” I keep it up all winter long! It just looks so cozy and serene to me.
Vintage Art Print Gallery Wall Collection

This listing has a beautiful set of vintage wall art prints that make a gorgeous gallery wall when hung together. When I wrote this post, the prints were on a major sale! Each print comes in every size option, so you can print just one in a large size or choose a variety of sizes. There are options galore!
Vintage Christmas Tree Print

A vintage Christmas tree print like this would go wonderfully with this year’s “trend” of traditional decor. Wouldn’t it look great in a room with a Christmas tree dressed in velvet ribbons and deep reds and greens?? Ahh… so pretty! Note: The exact print above is no longer available, but I found one that is very similar.
Rural Winter Landscape from 1800s

This vintage art from the 1800s features a rural winter scene. It would be a lovely picture that blends in well with decor all winter long.
Vintage Winter Landscape Oil Painting from 1800s

This print of a vintage oil painting shows the brushstrokes and texture of the original. I have a similar one for a different season, and my adult son thought it really was a painting!
Snow at Argenteuil by Claude Monet

I’ve always been drawn to the soft look of Claude Monet’s paintings. This one would work beautifully at Christmas and all winter long, too, and it has a more “modern” look to it.
Winter Ice Skating – Vintage Oil Painting from 1700s

Can’t you just feel this picture?? I can almost picture it on one of those days when you can see your breath in the cold air… Those people look like they’re having a wonderful time!

How to Print Your Art Prints
Once you buy the downloads of your vintage art prints, you can print up to 8×10 size on your home printer (I prefer to use cardstock). For large-scale prints, a local print shop is a good option. (I prefer matte over glossy.)
