Ever since we moved into this house, this strange closet has puzzled us. It has one door on the left and a big open gap on the right, yet it's all one closet!

For years I've hung a curtain over the mess and searched for a better fix. I always liked the sliding barn door idea, but my husband was skeptical until I showed him The Handmade Home's excellent tutorial. Suddenly it seemed doable.
Honestly, my part was mostly cheering on the idea and painting it once it was finished. I had very little to do with the build…
because my husband did all the heavy lifting! I'll share the specifics tomorrow, but for now, here it is!

Isn't it awesome??

And it does more than cover the closet opening. It can also slide across to cover the living room doorway, so we don't need a door that would bang into the buffet!

Isn't that clever??
If you were here, I'd even let you slide it yourself…
Now I'm on the hunt for the perfect handle.
I refuse to pay $100 for just one…
